CTA officials explain Red Line track-renewal project

July 14, 2012 (CHICAGO)

CTA President Forrest Claypool told riders the plan wasn't taken lightly and they have major plans to help customers with alternatives.

The project will shut down nine Red Line stations between Cermak-Chinatown and 95th Street for five months starting next year.

Tracks will also be replaced.

On the north end of the Red Line, Howard-bound trains will not stop at Bryn Mawr, Thorndale, Granville, Loyola, or Jarvis stations this weekend.

However, a shuttle train will operate between Berwyn and Granville.

The CTA is performing viaduct work, track renewal and station construction as part of Red Line north improvement project.
