Brooks resumed his walk Wednesday morning in downtown Chicago and is planning to reach Joliet by the afternoon.
Brooks and his supporters handed out information about his march across America.
Brooks is trying to raise $15 million to build a community center in a vacant lot near his church. He is also hoping to raise awareness about inner-city violence as he walks cross country.
Brooks and his team hope to arrive in Los Angeles by October.
