1 killed, 3 injured in shooting at Merrill Park

July 24, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The four victims were among dozens of people shot in Chicago since Monday night.

Police say several shots were fired at approximately 10:30 p.m. Monday in Merrill Park in the 2900-block of East 96th Street.

The victims were standing in the park at the time of the shooting.

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the head and rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he later died, making the death the first homicide this year in for the small Southeast Side neighborhood.

Three others were recovering from their gunshot wounds Tuesday. A 21-year-old man was shot in the leg, a 30-year-old woman was shot in the leg, and a 34-year-old woman was shot in the abdomen.

All three were in the hospital in stable condition Tuesday.

Authorities say they are investigating and looking for two suspects in the shooting, but they did not provide descriptions.
