An ordinance aimed to help Chicago renters stay in their homes when the property is in foreclosure was introduced at Chicago City Hall on Wednesday, as supporters of the measure held a rally outside of the building.

Alderman Dick Mell wants banks to allow tenants to keep paying rent, rather than force them out. Mell said banks will have an easier time selling the buildings if they are occupied by tenants.

On a personal note, Mell confirmed that he is engaged. His wife died in 2006.
