NYC health officials encourage breast feeding

With controversy still swirling over New York City's attempt to ban over-sized sugary drinks, now the city's health officials are planning a new baby formula program aimed at encouraging breastfeeding.

Starting in September, hospitals volunteering for the program would keep formula in storage rooms rather than in the hospital rooms of new mothers.

The New York Post reports hospitals won't deny formula to mothers but will present formula as a second option to breastfeeding because of its health benefits.

Critics say it's an unnecessary intrusion into neo-natal practices.
