Police say Anthony Nugent approached the girl as she was walking in the 900-block of South Home Avenue in Park Ridge.
He apparently became enraged when the teen wouldn't show him the musical instrument she was carrying. Nugent allegedly pushed the girl to the ground and hit her.
A person driving by saw the attack and called 911. Nugent tried to get away, but officers caught him.
The girl suffered minor injuries.
