Chicago Urban League hosts Back-to-School Fest

August 18, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The Chicago Urban League's Back-To-School Fest gave out free school supplies to students.

The day came complete with food, hoops and haircuts for kids.

Parents could also register to vote and get housing forms.

It's all to prepare families for the school year and beyond.

"Getting kids excited, getting them to turn up for the first day of school is important," said Chicago Urban League's Shari Runner. "Education is the foundation of everything they're going to do in life, so having families here to get active, to be involved with their kids going back to school is really important to us."

The event also provided free health tests to kids.
