Brian Urlacher avoids questions over blood treatment for ailing knee

August 22, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The Bears captain was on hand Wednesday morning to watch practice at Halas Hall.

A report in The Chicago Tribune said, in May or early June, Urlacher went to Germany to meet with a doctor, presumed to be Dr. Peter Wehling, about regenokine treatment, a procedure that uses the patient's blood to speed the healing of a knee joint.

The procedure is not approved by the FDA.

Urlacher and Coach Lovie Smith neither confirmed or denied the story Wednesday.

Urlacher would only say: "I was definitely in Europe last year."
