4 eating habits can help older women stay in shape

August 28, 2012

University of Pittsburgh scientists looked at both short and long term changes made by nearly 500 overweight or obese women all in their late 50s.

Specific eating habits linked with weight loss included decreasing desserts, sugary beverages and cheeses and meats; also, increasing fruits and vegetables.

The changes in diet were small but significant.

For instance, University of Pittsburgh researchers found women who increased fruits and vegetables by two servings a day found a three-pound weight loss at the end of four years.
