The Food and Drug Administration has approved a new drug, Linzess, to treat irritable bowel syndrome with constipation.

The drug speeds up bowel movements and reduces pain in many patients with the disorder.

Linzess is the second product on the market, but researchers say the new medication will have fewer side effects and only needs to be taken once a day.

It is estimated more than 15 million Americans suffer from irritable bowel syndrome.
