2 killed in Sycamore hospital shooting

September 4, 2012 (SYCAMORE, Ill.)

One of those killed is an adult patient at the acute care facility; the other is an adult female visitor. It appears to be a murder-suicide.

The scene was secured by the Sycamore Police Department. WDKB Radio reports that police were called to the hospital Tuesday evening after a report of shots being fired in one of the patient rooms.

Sycamore Police Chief Don Thomas says a man and woman were found in the room, both dead of gunshot wounds. Their names haven't yet been released.

Police say the hospital wasn't evacuated and was able to continue normal operations.

Thomas describes the shooting as an isolated incident and says the general public was never at risk.

According to its website, Kindred Hospital is a 69-bed facility that specializes in long-term care.
