According to an alert issued by police, a man tried to kidnap a 14-year-old girl Wednesday morning in the 4600 block of S. Kedzie.
Police say the man tried to grab the girl by her backpack. She managed to get away.
Guardian Angel volunteers patrolled the area and escorted students to school through the morning.
They also handed out flyers about the attempted abduction in front of Columbia Explores Academy, where the girl was approached by the suspect.
Police describe the suspect as being 30 to 40 years old and between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-7, with a black mustache and missing front teeth.
Police say the man spoke to the girl Spanish.
