Open Streets

Parts of the Loop and Wicker Park/ Bucktown are turning into a free playground for kids of all ages.

"Open Streets" ( returns for two days. On Saturday, September 8, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Chicago Loop Alliance and Active Transportation Alliance will close streets to cars along 13 blocks in the Loop and create an urban playground for all ages. Here are the streets: State from Lake to Van Buren, and Monroe from State to Lake Shore Drive.

And on Sunday, September 16, 2012, "Open Streets" debuts in Wicker Park/ Bucktown. Adam Burck, Executive Director of the Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce, and Julia Kim, Active Transportation Alliance and Director of Open Streets, came into our ABC7 studio to talk about that event. This will be on Milwaukee Avenue from Division to Western Avenues.

Both days, you can enjoy biking, running, skate parks, playgrounds and climbing walls. ABC7 is a sponsor of this event.
