2 police horses injured after break-in

September 17, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Someone broke into the department's mounted unit facility at the South Shore Cultural Center's grounds Sunday night. One of the horses was treated after being sprayed with a fire extinguisher and another was cut the leg.

"The horses were very agitated and fearful from what they had just endured," said Lt. Paul Bauer, commanding officer, Mounted Unit.

Both injured horses are doing better and are expected to be back on duty Tuesday.
