Deal reached in Lake Forest teachers strike; Classes resume Wednesday

September 19, 2012 (LAKE FOREST, Ill.)

"We would like to announce that we were able to reach a tentative agreement with the [u]nion," Board President Sharon Golan was quoted in a news release Wednesday. "We are pleased that our teachers and students will be back in the classroom in the morning."

The teachers union's Facebook page also indicated there was a contract deal and that classes would be in session Wednesday.

Lake Forest teachers had been on strike since last week, and the sticking point was pay.

Specifics of the agreement will be presented to the teachers union membership for approval, and then to the Board of Education for approval, a news release said. School district officials say the specifics of the agreement will be made public after that.

All classes, including early bird, resume Wednesday, according to the release, which means approximately 1,700 students attending Lake Forest High School are expected to be in school with their teachers.
