Quinn urges IL not to text while driving

September 19, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Motorists were reminded of the dangers of driving and texting during AT&T's No Text on Board Pledge Day. Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose also released a public service announcement in which he says he never texts while behind the wheel.

"This is really a public health measure to educate all those who live in Illinois and indeed our country on how important it is to save lives," Gov. Quinn said.

In 2009, the governor signed a statewide ban on texting while driving into law. Since it law took effect, more than 2,600 people have been convicted.
