Oversize golf ball sculpture stolen from Michigan Ave.

September 25, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The stolen sculpture is one of about 50 oversized golf ball on display along Michigan Avenue to promote the Ryder Cup at Medinah Country Club. After the tournament, the golf balls will be auctioned off -- and the money will go Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana and The Illinois PGA Foundation.

"Whoever stole the ball literally shortchanged $5,000 from two deserving charities that support children in our area," Eric Schmidt, executive director, Ryder Cup Magnificent Moments, said.

The golf ball was created by a local artist.
