Chicago police officers, firefighters honored by city

October 9, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Firefighter Larrence McCormack received the Cater Harrison Award of Valor for saving a fellow firefighter who was lost in smoke and flames, and, 24 hours later, rescuing an amputee who was caught in a fire.

Officer Joseph Lopez received the Lambert Tree Award. During a drug deal that went bad, Lopez chased down and fatally shot a man armed with a semi- automatic weapon who threatened him.

"I received this award I guess for doing my job. Being, doing, what all the officers in the city do every day," Officer Joseph Lopez, award recipient, said.

The family of Officer Clifton Lewis received a posthumous award for his bravery. He was shot and killed while working security at a West Side store.

Officer Del Pearson received an honorable mention after being shot while on duty on the South Side.
