CPS chief Brizard being replaced

October 11, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Brizard was on the job for only 17 months, which included the city's first teachers' strike in 25 years.

ABC7 has learned that Mayor Rahm Emanuel said it's time for a clean break and Brizard is out by mutual agreement.

As recently as September 19 the mayor told reporters that Brizard had his confidence.

The mayor's office said he is being replaced by Barbara Byrd-Bennett, who has been Chicago's interim chief education officer for the past six months.

Mayor Emanuel will make the announcement about Brizard Friday at a school where he will also introduce Byrd-Bennett as the new schools CEO.
