Expelled state rep Derrick Smith says he's innocent

October 25, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Smith was arrested a week before the March primary. He's accused of accepting a $7,000 bribe. Smith won the primary so he remains on the November ballot.

On Thursday evening, he and his opponent, Lance Tyson, appeared on WVON Radio.

"I'm innocent until proven guilty. I have not been to court, don't know when I will go to court on this issue. I think what's important is not conviction... your constituency," said Derrick Smith, 10th District candidate.

Tyson is running as the 10th District Unity candidate and has the backing of Secretary of State Jesse White.
