Park named in honor of murdered teen

October 27, 2012 (INDIAN PARK, Ill.)

Fourteen-year old Kelli O'Laghlin was killed when she surprised an intruder at her family's home in southwest suburban Indian Park.

The community responded with an outpouring of support for the family.

"This day is full of mixed emotions for me," said Bridgette Douglas, O'Laghlin's sister. "I'm sad because Kelli won't be with us physically to make new memories anymore. At the same time I am so proud and honored to have Kelli as my sister."

Saturday night, family and friends shared stories about Kelli and how she touched their lives.

They joined in the dedication of a playground at Sacajawea Park in her memory.
