Chicago Teachers Union vows to fight proposed school closings

November 12, 2012 (CHICAGO)

"We're here to serve notice to the appointed board, that if you close our schools, we are coming after you," said Jesse Sharkey, Chicago Teachers Union.

Hundreds of parents and community groups marched with Chicago Teachers Union members at Cityfront Plaza Monday. The Board of Education has said it plans to look into closing schools that are under-used.

The board said they plan to ask for an extension on the deadline when they can announce which schools will be closed. In a statement Monday, the board said they share the same goal to provide children in every neighborhood with high quality education.
