A ribbon-cutting took place Sunday at Sand Ridge Nature Center in South Holland. The four pioneer log cabins there have just been renovated.
While they weren't built in the 1800s, they have been around for a while. The ribbon-cutting took place during the 40th annual Settlers Days on Sunday.
The event gives visitors a chance to get a feel for daily life during several time periods of American history.
Sand Ridge is part of the Cook County Forest Preserve, which is turning 100.
"Not only are we investing in our facilities, Arnold (Randall, General Superintendent of Cook County Forest Preserve) says we've invested about $400,000 to fix up the cabins here we're going to make more investments and we're going to make more acquisitions," said Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. "We're going to acquire more land to be forest preserves."
