Aimee Zimmerman says she suffered a concussion and other serious injuries in the accident on November 1.
The UIC grad student says she was the designated bike lane on Taylor Street when she says the officer opened his door directly in her path.
"I remember seeing the door fly open and doing my best to avoid it. Then I remember flying through the air and the next thing was impact of head on ground," said Zimmerman.
A spokesman for Chicago's law department says the city has not been served with the suit so they cannot comment at this time.
