Being overweight might protect against depression

There may be an upside to carrying a few extra pounds. Extra pounds may actually protect against depression.

Researchers in Canada looked at a gene commonly found in people who are overweight. That gene is linked with a lower risk of depression.

However, doctors warn that the risks associated with obesity greatly outweigh that benefit.

The study is published in the journal of Molecular Psychiatry.
