High fructose corn syrup linked to type-2 diabetes

November 27, 2012

A new study shows that as a nation's rate of high fructose intake rises, so do levels of type-2 diabetes.

The findings published in Global Public Health cannot prove a cause and effect but it does conclude that diabetes prevalence is about 20 percent higher in countries where use of the sweetener is high.

Scientists say this suggests there is something specific about the sweetener that is boosting diabetes risk beyond what other sugars would.
