A good night's sleep could do wonders for your pain tolerance levels, according to a new study in the medical journal "Sleep".

Getting more sleep improves daytime alertness and reduces pain sensitivity in healthy adults.

In the study scientists took mildly sleep-deprived participants and extended their sleep to 10 hours per night.

The length of time they were able to keep their fingers on a heat source increased by 25 percent.

The study is said to be the first of its kind to show that extended sleep reduces pain sensitivity.
