Nikki Bostic-Jones, 37, was struck by a vehicle near the Cook County Jail as she reported to work on July 18. The driver fled the scene, but prosecutors charged Juan Bello, 57, a few days later.
Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle announced Tuesday that the county and Chicago Department of Transportation spent $115,000 on improvements to the crosswalks at 2900 S. California Avenue and 2900 S. California Boulevard, raising sidewalks, adding markings and installing a median between 27th Street and 31st Street.
