The fire ignited at a home in the 900-block of South Kensington. A passerby and a neighbor spotted the fire, but by the time they saw it, it was too difficult to rescue anyone inside the burning building.
The victim was believed to be in his 90s. Another person remained hospitalized later Saturday.
The Illinois state fire marshal and fire investigators from several departments reported to the scene to attempt to determine the cause of the fire.
