Pairing up weight-loss programs with smartphones isn't a new concept. It makes sense that having an app to remind you about your goals and give instant personalized attention might help.
But does it really work?
Researchers at Northwestern Medicine have been studying different approaches to find out. In a new study, they claim that an app to track eating and exercise can make weight loss more successful.
Participants lost an average of 15 pounds and kept it off for at least a year.
But there is a catch.
The technology only helped when its users attended regular classes about nutrition and exercise. The app alone didn't do it all.
