Police in west suburban Wheaton said a dog has been attacked and killed by a coyote.

The coyote jumped a resident's fence late Friday evening and killed the household's dog, according to police.

Residents in Wheaton should keep an eye on small pets and children when outdoors, officials said.

Wheaton police said residents should make loud noises or spray water from a garden hose to scare away any coyotes.
