Suburban marine to spend holidays at home with newborn twins, family

December 22, 2012 (AURORA, Ill.)

Two days after Sergeant Micheal Iwanski's return from Afghanistan, Operation Welcome You Home partnered up with his wife Corporal Alyssa Iwanski to throw this Aurora marine a surprise party.

"When we see his face and beaming ear to ear it's the best joy, best reward i can have," Donna Morsovillo of Operation Welcome You Home said.

A police motorcade escorted the young couple and their three daughters to a local pub where relatives, friends and perfect strangers paid tribute to this clearly emotional father and marine.

"I was just thinking about the guys who didn't make it home. Those are my heroes. They are the guys I look up to," he said.

Iwanski was originally not slated to return home until after the holidays. After missing the birth of his three-month-old twins, his superiors allowed him to fly back in time for Christmas.

"it's rough out there, especially when you have a pregnant wife at home," he said.

"It was very hard knowing he was thousands of miles away," Alyssa Iwanski said.

He told us he plans to spend as much time as he can with his wife and daughters over the holidays. In two weeks he must report back for duty at Camp Pendleton in California.
