Snow gives some Chicagoans a white Christmas

December 25, 2012 (CHICAGO)

While some enjoyed the snow by taking a walk or a run along the North Shore, the weather changed holiday plans for others who had to put down their presents and pick up a shovel.

"I think this is lake effect that we didn't expect. Wasn't expecting to have to shovel today. Definitely an inch. If it was more than that we'd break out the snow blower," said Crystal Oleff.

It was no holiday for plow truck drivers in some communities. They were out clearing streets and spreading salt.

The snow contributed to some crashes and spin outs, according to authorities.
