Want to lose weight? Drive less and walk more

December 27, 2012 2:01:11 PM PST
People focused on weight-loss resolutions for 2013 might want to simply start driving less and start walking more, according to a new study in the journal "Preventative Medicine".

According to a statistical research model at the University of Illinois, if every healthy adult in the country drove one less mile a day in favor of walking, the national body-mass-index would drop by two tenths of a percent over six years.

It would amount to a significant reduction in the nation's obesity rate and a step toward better overall health in the U.S., according to the study's authors.
