Study: Antidepressants during pregnancy are safe

January 4, 2013

A new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association shows that taking a common type of antidepressant does not increase the risk of having a stillborn child or losing an infant early in life.

Doctors looked at a class of drugs called SSRIs which includes drugs such as Zoloft.

They used data from a 1.5 million newborns and their mothers from northern Europe. Researchers concluded there was little difference in those who took the medication and those who did not.

Of course, you should talk to your doctor before taking any medication.
