Chicago Public Library adds more teachers for homework help

January 10, 2013 (CHICAGO)

Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced the program Teacher in the Library will expand into all Chicago Public Library branches. Through partnerships with local universities, undergraduate education students will help Chicago Public School children with their homework after school hours.

"Teacher in the Library is one of the only programs of its kind in public libraries and this expansion solidifies it as the best free after school homework program available to schoolchildren anywhere," said Mayor Rahm Emanuel in a statement. "Parents constantly praise the positive impact their branch's Teacher in the Library has made on their child's grades and confidence in school."

The program allows college students who want to become teachers gain experience in the field and can be applied toward teacher certification.
