Fisherman lives after falling through thin ice on lake

January 12, 2013 (LINDENHURST, Ill.)

The man was ice fishing on Lake Linden in Lindenhurst when he fell through a hole in the ice.

A woman heard his cries for help and came to his rescue while calling 911.

As she tried to reach him, the ice gave way under her as well.

So she stayed with the man at the ice's edge until rescue crews arrived.

"We got him out. They took him out first. I was ok. I was on my feet. I could have walked through the ice except it was chest high."

The fisherman is in stable condition at a hospital and the good samaritan says she took a hot shower and feels fine.
