Quentin Smith passed away Tuesday at the age of 94.
After flying in World War II, Smith returned home to Gary, Indiana, where he became an English teacher, school administrator and community leader.
The airmen were awarded a Congressional Gold Medal, which is the highest civilian honor bestowed by Congress.
