Convicted murderer mistakenly released from custody

January 31, 2013 (CHICAGO)

Steven Robbins, 44, is serving a 50-year sentence in Indiana for murder and weapons charges.

Robbins was in court Tuesday in Cook County on an armed violence warrant and drug charges. Those charges were dropped, but instead of being returned to Indiana, Robbins was released.

"For reasons yet unknown, the offender was released by Illinois authorities without being held for return to IDOC custody," a release from the Indiana Department of Corrections stated. "A warrant has been issued in both Indiana and Illinois."

Robbins is described as 5'5" and about 190 pounds. He has a tattoo on the right side of his neck that says "Nicole."

Law enforcement is searching for Robbins. Anyone with information is asked to call (708) 865-4915 or 911.
