Police responded just after midnight Wednesday to the robbery of a Subway sandwich shop near Chicago and State. They chased the suspect, who crashed in the 1600-block of North Milwaukee. Investigators say they shot the man when he allegedly made suspicious movements but that his injuries are not life threatening.
The man could be the same person suspected in 12 other similar robberies at restaurants and convenience stores. All of the holdups happened between 11:30 p.m. and 2:15 a.m., all matching the description of the same man.
A robber got away with $400 at another Subway shop downtown Monday on Washington at Garland near the Chicago Cultural Center. Also among the targeted stores was a Dunkin Donuts in the 300-block of West Chicago Avenue. The suspect is being treated for his gunshot wounds and being questioned.
