Parents of ex-Price School students concerned about safety

February 21, 2013 (CHICAGO)

"These students that were displaced from their neighborhood, at the next receiving school have been having problems dealing with individuals with violence," said Rev. Krista Alston, Pleasant Gift Missionary Baptist Church.

"They always tell us that they're worried every day about getting jumped on," said Jitu Brown, Kenwood Oakland Community Organization.

Members of the Kenwood Oakland Community Organization say their children are being poorly treated after being transferred 22 blocks away to the National Teachers Academy.

"We've been the canary in the mine, our community, for a long time about these policies, and it's about priorities. The priorities are profit over black and brown kids," said Shannon Bennett, Kenwood Oakland Community Organization.

CPS has released a statement, saying, "The transition for all students at NTA has been a safe and seamless process, and parents have expressed their satisfaction with the outstanding supports that have been implemented at the school."
