Family, friends and colleagues said goodbye to Mary Ann McMorrow, the first woman to serve on the Illinois Supreme Court, Friday.

McMorrow passed away last Saturday after a brief illness. McMorrow joined the state's highest court in 1992 and became the chief justice 10 years later.

But she began breaking barriers for women well before that. McMorrow was the first woman to prosecute major felony cases for the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. She was 83.
