NewsViews: Childhood Obesity

March 3, 2013 (CHICAGO)

That's 12.5 million children and teens who are obese.

First lady Michelle Obama was in her hometown last week to highlight her campaign to combat childhood obesity. She launched the "Let's Move Active Schools Program." That's a public private partnership to bring more physical education to U.S. schools.

Surrounded by Chicago school children and a number of well-known athletes, the first lady told the children they need to take care of their bodies.

Joining us on this edition of NewsViews to discuss childhood obesity, what's behind the increase, the consequences and how families can deal with it, are Dr. Elizabeth Littlejohn from the University of Chicago and Dr. Marian Fitzgibbon from the University of Illinois-Chicago.
