A new study finds all it takes is just one concussion to cause long-term structural damage to the brain.

The finding is said to be the first of its kind to show that brain atrophy, which is the measureable losses of gray and white matter, occurs not only in people who have suffered severe brain injuries but also in those who have had just one concussion.

Authors of the study in the Journal Radiology say it's important for patients to be evaluated after an initial concussion.
