Migraine sufferers may be born with the condition for those throbbing headaches, according to Italian researchers.

The new study suggests migraines are related to brain abnormalities present at birth while others develop the condition over time. Researchers looked at the cortical region, or the outer layer of the brain, of nearly 100 migraine sufferers.

Doctors speculate some migraine patients might have an abnormal cortical surface, which makes them more susceptible to pain.
