Pam Yokoyama nominated Lee because she is impressed with how much the 25-year-old helps and pushes young people to follow their dreams.
Before medical school, Lee taught eighth grade at Parkside Community Academy in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood. He still mentors some of those students.
Lee has also launched a nonprofit organization called the Road Less Traveled Fund. The group's goal is to provide cars to young activists who, in turn, invest and support their own communities.
He has also traveled to Rwanda to help a health organization write grants. Last year, he visited an orphanage in Haiti.
Lee says, ultimately, he has two messages he likes to share with others: Care about those around you and if people are not laughing at your dreams, your dreams are not big enough.
