Daily Herald: Kindergarten assessment tests

So rather than fill in the bubbles on an answer sheet, students will be evaluated more heavily on their social development skills. This, more than standardized testing, will determine if a child is ready for elementary school, educators say.

But the pilot program is not receiving universal acclaim. The evaluations, which involve teachers recording specific data on each student, take considerable time. And, teachers with half-day kindergartens have only a 2.5-hour days with the kids.
