Chicago White Sox fans brave cold for opening day

April 1, 2013 (CHICAGO)

Tailgaters were dressed more for football weather than baseball season. That didn't' keep Louis Plzak from throwing a proper tailgate.

"You gotta have all your friends, bags, food and family," Plzak said. John Long also got his tailgate going early so he could claim enough space in the parking lot. Long has about 40 people in his party. One of them is Debbie Finnegan, who is all bundled up.

"I think I'm up to four [layers]," she said.

The temperature much of Monday hovered around 40 degrees, and is one of the coldest home openers many Sox fans remember.

Frank Gambro has been to 60 openers. The family tradition brings together three generations.

"It's just cold," Gambro said.
