Englewood home to organic farm

April 24, 2013 (CHICAGO)

The city has plans for developing the one and a half-acre site onto other open land in the neighborhood.

The plan is part of the Chicago neighborhoods now initiative, which is working to improve the economically-challenged area.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the farm will also create 90 jobs for residents in the area.

"It's giving neighborhood, like Englewood, an economic opportunity at job creation and taking what was an empty lot and making it grow," he said.

Mayor Emanuel also says more urban gardens are needed in the city.

The Englewood farm is open to the public every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
