A man has been charged after he shot at police during a West Side traffic stop over the weekend.

Thirty-one-year-old Daniel D. Jackson, Jr. is charged with three felony counts and two misdemeanors, including unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault and resisting a police officer.

Police claim the man pointed a sawed-off shotgun at officers during a traffic stop near Franklin Boulevard and Central Park. However, at least one officer fired shots, striking the man in the arm, a police news release said.

Officers say the driver sped away after the gunfire, but police caught him when he crashed a few blocks away.

The man was taken to Stroger Hospital and is expected to recover. There were no reported injuries to police, according to the release.

Jackson was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
